Big Shout out to Hutch Entertainment. I owe you big time! If you don’t know who PLAYAZ Circle is, you might want to change your life. The dynamic duo consisting of Tity Boi and Dolla have taken the Atlanta rap scene by storm. Riding off the success of their hit single “Duffle Bag Boy” featuring Lil Wayne, these guys are heating up. Check out the conversation I had with them last week.

What’s good? How are you feeling?
We great man-greater than ever! We sold over 2 million ring tones. We have a new album coming out, Flight 360. We also just bought a studio on the South Side (Atlanta). We were tired of people charging us all kinds of outrageous prices, so we got our paper up and we opened our own studio so we could do our thing.
What do you have in the works?
Well, we’re working on a movie. It started off being a street novelty about the hood, but we decided to make it a movie instead. It’s going to be one of those, have-to-have books!
Where’d you come up with the name P.L.A.Y.A.Z Circle?
Well originally Cory Cook thought of the name. P.L.A.Y.A.Z stands for Preparing Legal Assets for Years from A-Z. Shit, everyone started off hustling, and we always wanted to legalize our money, so the name fits.
We had a couple of nicknames in our time.
The name “Duffle Bag Boys” came from our homeboy Mike that passed. Rest in Peace Mike.
What was it like working Disturbing The Peace(DTP), but enjoying solo success?
Well, you don’t want to be in 1 position your whole life. You got to be a man and move! We met Ludacris through our homeboy Lil’ Fate (also with DTP) and from then on we started working with DTP. But still, even if that situation didn’t work out, we would still be good, man. We do things in the community, in our neighborhoods, and for the kids so through karma good things would’ve happened anyways.
I know there’s a lot of competition out there, especially coming out of Atlanta. What do you do to stay relevant and hot in the streets?
Duffle Bag Boys took off so fast, we haven’t really had a chance to leave the trap! We love being lyrical too so that’s another reason we stay hot! Keep spitting that hot shit. We spit hard, man- from line to line and from bar to bar. No verses off. Really, can’t nobody in the ‘A’ fuck with us.
How have past struggles helped you get to where you at now? Can you speak on any?
Tity Boi- I used to play basketball in college at Alabama State University. So for real, that prepared me for entertainment. It’s all the same thing.
What’s the process like for you guys when you get in the studio?
Man, we go in and BEAST OUT.
Dolla: We can go in and knock out about 3-4 verses at a time, or just knock out two songs completely. Sometimes that makes it difficult sometimes and that makes it hard sometimes, cause a nigga got to put in extra work.
Tity Boi: If the beat fire, we spitting! We trust and feel confident with each other so it don’t matter who go first or second.
You have a track out now with Phonte of Lil Brother called “Paper Chasin”. Where did that collaboration come from? I always associated Lil Brother with being more of the conscious backpack rap.
Backpack rap came from hiphop. Hiphop came from the streets. You can’t separate the two. That’s why people are always saying hiphop is dead. When the backpack rap is in the front and in the limelight, the streets are keeping in consistent and when the streets is in the front, the backpackers are keeping it consistent. That’s why its all hiphop.
What do you think of the Hawks success? I know they lost last night, but you gotta admit, they’re pretty impressive this year!
What, you trying to play us? Haha! The Hawks are the SHIT nigga!
Anything you want to tell the people?
Hell yea, we got a mixtape out called Look What I Got hosted by Clinton Sparks. Check out our myspace http://www.myspace.com/playazcircle. Check out our single “Paper Chaser” and “Look What I Got”. Thank you for the support and keep on supporting us.
